Strategies to Address Sexual Risk Taking Behaviour - 9:30-4:30pm 25 September 2009

Young people are often clued up about sexual health, STI’s and contraception; however, there is often a gap when it comes to putting this knowledge into action. This new half day seminar aims to provide participants with practical tools to address sexual risk taking behaviour amongst young people. We will explore strategies in working with young people in a proactive preventative approach through group work and one to one interventions. The seminar content is based in line with the national and local good practice evidence base and will refer to the NICE Guidance on Behaviour Change (2007). It will be expected that participants have previously attended a basic sexual health course.

Learning Outcomes:
§ Have explored why young people take sexual risks
§ Have greater understanding of motivational interviewing techniques
§ Have increased awareness of different types of resistance and reluctance from young people to change / engage and explore strategies to overcome this
§ Gain confidence and practical strategies to help & support young people develop skills of resistance, assertiveness and self awareness
